How Orthodontics Work
The goal of orthodontic treatment is the same for children, teenagers or adults – to straighten teeth so they look and work better.
This is achieved using braces or clear aligners that put gentle pressure on your teeth to move them into the correct position over a period of months or years.
Correcting misaligned teeth is about more than aesthetics, it's also about function. Properly aligned teeth are less likely to break down, are easier to clean.
Additionally, orthodontic care can alleviate jaw joint pain and make speaking and chewing easier.
Traditional Braces
Traditional braces, made of either metal or ceramic, have been used for decades to straighten teeth. In recent years, advances in orthodontic treatment have resulted in braces that are low-profile, more comfortable and easier to care for than ever before.
How Braces Straighten Teeth
Braces apply continuous pressure to the teeth over a period of time, slowly moving them into their new, corrected positions.
As pressure is applied and the teeth move, the bone reforms around the new positions of the teeth.
Invisalign Clear Aligners
Using Invisalign clear aligners, your smile is gradually straightened using a series of customized and clear plastic aligners. Every couple of weeks, you will switch to the next aligner in the series in order to move your teeth into their prescribed positions.
Invisalign clear aligners offer a convenient alternative for orthodontic treatment. They are removable for when you'd prefer that no one know you are undergoing orthodontic treatment.
Similar in appearance to custom whitening trays, they are easy to insert. You can even remove them to eat, drink, brush and floss!
